The plugin submitted on 3 October as EventMail passed the WordPress.org review and is listed since 8 October, under a new name: Postalion. It can now be installed from Plugins → Add New by searching for it, and updates arrive the way they do for every other plugin. The old address, eventmail.fantasythemes.net, forwards to postalion.fantasythemes.net.
What 1.1 adds
Review took five days, and the plugin did not stand still in the meantime. The listed version is 1.1, with these changes over 1.0:
- Lists. Subscribers can be grouped. A sign-up form can fill a particular list, and a newsletter can go to everyone, to chosen lists, or to the site’s users only. Unsubscribing is always for all lists at once.
- Statistics, off by default. Switch them on and each newsletter shows opens and clicks, with the links that were clicked. The counting happens on your own site; nothing is sent elsewhere.
- Two automatic emails. A welcome email after someone confirms their address, and a notification when a new post is published. Both are optional.
- The sign-up form as a block, with a live preview in the editor, next to the
shortcode.Subscribe to our Newsletter

- An optional popup for the sign-up form.
- Sign-up checkboxes for the registration form, the comment form, the WooCommerce checkout and Contact Form 7.
- For developers,
postalion_subscribe(), and new filters for the popup and the post notification.
What it needs
WordPress 5.8 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer. Emails go out through wp_mail(), so an SMTP plugin or a mail service you already use works without any extra setting.
Pro
The Pro add-on is still being built, with no date or price yet: a drag-and-drop builder, email sequences after sign-up, segments, A/B tests of the subject line and WooCommerce emails. The free plugin is complete on its own, and nothing in it will move behind a price. The waiting list is on the Postalion site.
