EventMail 1.0 is finished. On 3 October it was submitted to the WordPress.org plugin directory, where every new plugin is read by a reviewer before it is listed. That takes as long as it takes.
What it is
EventMail is a newsletter plugin for WordPress. It gathers subscribers with a sign-up form and double opt-in, lets you write a newsletter in one of five templates, sends it in the background a batch at a time, and keeps a log of every email. Your list stays in your own database and the mail goes out through your own mail service.
It is free and open source, and it has no limit on subscribers or on how often you send.
Where to get it now
Until the listing is live, the plugin can be downloaded from eventmail.fantasythemes.net. When it reaches the directory you will be able to install and update it from Plugins → Add New like any other.
What comes next
A Pro add-on for larger lists is being built: a drag-and-drop builder, opens and clicks for those who want them, segments and automation. There is no date or price yet. The free plugin is complete on its own, and nothing in it will move behind a price.
