Postalion

Newsletters from your own WordPress. No limits, no monthly bill.

Postalion gathers your subscribers, sends your newsletters in the background and keeps a record of every email. Your list stays in your own database and the mail goes out through your own mail service. Install it from Plugins → Add New, like any other.

What it does

Five jobs, done properly.

01 — Write

Write it like a letter.

Pick a template, type your message and drop in ready-made blocks: a headline, a button, two columns, a note. Check how it looks on a phone and send yourself a test first.

  • Blocks made for email, not for web pages
  • Name and address filled in for each reader
  • Preview for desktop and phone
The editor with its block bar.

02 — Send

Sent in the background, a batch at a time.

A list of five thousand does not go out in one request. Postalion queues every recipient and sends in small batches, so shared hosting keeps up. Close the tab and it carries on.

  • Send now, or pick a date and time
  • Batch size and pause are yours to set
  • Works with any SMTP plugin or mail service
A send in progress.

03 — Grow

A list people chose to be on.

Put the sign-up form on any page as a block or a shortcode, or show it as a popup. New subscribers confirm by email before they are added, so typos and fake addresses stay out. Lists keep the workshop people apart from the newsletter people.

  • Block, shortcode or popup, with double opt-in
  • Lists, each with its own form
  • A sign-up box for comments, registration, WooCommerce checkout and Contact Form 7
Two lists, each with the shortcode that fills it.

04 — Keep track

Know what happened.

The log lists each email that left your site: who it went to, when, and whether your mail server took it. Switch statistics on and you also see opens and clicks for each newsletter, counted on your own site.

  • Sent and failed, with the reason
  • Opens and clicks, off by default
  • Old entries removed after 90 days
The email log, with the numbers of one newsletter.

05 — Automate

Two emails that send themselves.

A welcome email after someone confirms their address, and a newsletter whenever you publish a post. Both use your templates, and both stay off until you turn them on.

  • Welcome email, written once
  • New-post newsletter, sent on publish
  • Nothing else runs on its own
The two automatic emails.

By design

What it leaves out, on purpose.

A newsletter is a conversation between you and the people who asked to hear from you. The plugin stays out of it.

No

No tracking by default.

No tracking pixels and no rewritten links unless you switch statistics on. When you do, the counting happens on your own site.

No

No phoning home.

No telemetry, no account to create, no requests to outside servers.

No

No lock-in.

Subscribers live in your own WordPress database. Export the whole list to CSV whenever you like.

No

No hard goodbyes.

Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and the plugin answers requests to export or erase a person’s data.

Free and Pro

Free now. Pro later.

The free plugin is complete on its own. A Pro add-on for shops and larger lists is being built; it will add features, not remove limits, because there are none.
