autoRoyal had not had a large release since 2023. Version 3.1 is that release: it brings the theme up to current PHP and WordPress, and closes a gap in how rental prices were calculated.
PHP 8.2 and WordPress 6.7
The theme now runs cleanly on PHP 8.2. That meant three kinds of work:
- nine uses of
create_function(), removed from PHP years ago, were replaced with closures; - class properties that were never declared are now declared, which PHP 8.2 asks for;
- jQuery methods that have been deprecated, such as
.load(),.ready()and$.trim(), were replaced.
Rental prices are calculated on the server
Until now the total for a rental was worked out in the browser and sent with the booking. Anything a browser sends can be changed by the person using it. From 3.1 the server recalculates the price from the dates and the extras before checkout, so the total a customer pays is always the one your settings produce.
A time zone for your business
A rental desk in one time zone and a server in another used to disagree about what “today” means. There is now a business time zone setting for rental bookings.
WooCommerce: recommended, not required
A dealer website that takes no payments does not need a shop. WooCommerce has moved from required to recommended.
Version 3.1.1 followed a day later with more than three thousand small escaping fixes. If you are updating, go straight to 3.1.1.
